Yongnuo Lens 50mm f/1.8 II (Canon)

Yongnuo Lens 50mm f/1.8 II (Canon)

The 50mm f/1.8 was the first lens made by Yongnuo, and it was released back in 2014 with a price tag of $50.

Today Yongnuo announced an improved version of this nifty-fifty versatile and easy to use lens: the YN50mm f/1.8 II (Canon mount).

Hopefully with a Mark II, we can expect improvements, so let’s check out the specifications:

  • New mechanical structure
  • Metal ring
  • Minimum focus distance of 0.35m

That’s thin. As a reminder, check out the first YN50mm f/1.8 here.

Here are some official pictures of this new 50mm lens from Yongnuo.

Specifications of the YN50mm f/1.8 II

  • Optical formula: 5 groups / 6 elements
  • 7-blade diaphragm
  • Minimum aperture: f/22
  • Minimum focusing: 0.35m
  • Filter diameter: 58mm
  • Weight: 162g
  • Price: $70

There is now also a white version of the yn 50mm f1.8 II. I really like the look, but it is a bit more expensive ($85).

Conclusion

Users that tested the Yongnuo YN50mm f/1.8 II seems to say that picture quality is descent, with some improvements compared to the first version.

Some of them notices a noisy autofocus. that was the same “problem” on the previous version also. The autofocus can also hunt too much in low light condition.

One person reported that it was not compatible with the Canon 7D mark II camera.

This does not to be a really popular lens. People might prefer the even lighter 50mm f/1.4 from Yongnuo, more expensive but also better.

  1. Hi,
I have this lens, when I use it on a 600d camera, it works well, but when I use 1200d, there was a slight missfocussed, is there a solution for this?

    Thank you!

  2. Hi! I used your update for my 50mm 1.8 lens but sadly, my lens lost its aperture and turned to 0. How am I gonna fix it??
