Modes of the YN600EX-RT II:

The YN600EX-RT II can be used several ways. The main pros is that it is fully compatible with wireless triggering RT system from Canon. He can be used as a master flash and command several groups of slaves flashes from the Canon EX family as well as most of Yongnuo flashes.

Let’s see what you can do with the different modes of your YN600EX-RT II yongnuo flash.

The ETTL mode:

Short Press the [MODE] button until you reach the “ETTL” mode. This mode allows you to let the flash decide the output power it needs to correctly expose the photography. You can adjust it in case you want to overexpose or underexpose your scenery.

The Manual mode:

Short Press the [MODE] button until you reach the “M” mode. This mode allows you to manually setup the flash output, among other settings.
You can adjust the output range from 1/128 to 1/1 (1/1 is the full power, whether 1/128 is the lowest). With fine adjustment of 1/3EV you can have up to 22 levels of light in total.

The Multi Mode (or Stroboscopic mode):

Short Press the [MODE] button until you reach the “Multi” mode. This Multi mode allows you to to fire the flash multiple times per photo (shutter release). This is a creative mode that allows you to do many original and inventive pictures.

Similar to the “M” mode, you can choose the flash output from 1/1 to 1/128 by pressing the [Multi] button. Then you can select the frequency (number of flash per second) by clicking the [Hz] button. You can choose any number between 1 and 100. 1 means you will get one flash per second whereas 100 mean you will get 100 flashed per second, yeah this is a lot.

With Customs Settings functions (Fn) you can save your own settings in the menu and quickly use them on demand.

HSS: High-Speed Synchronization

HSS resolve a problem that often occurs in flash photography. Without HSS, you are limited by your camera synchronization speed. And when you go over it (above 1/250s – 1/320s), you start to see the curtain on the picture. High Speed Photography allows you to trigger the flash at a speed up to 1.8000s.

You can read this great article about HSS on this digital photography school article. (Opens in a new tab)

  1. I have 2 YN600RT-II flashes and both are not working properly with my EOS R. Every image is underexposed. I also have a Canon 430RT-II that does not have this issue. Is anyone else having this problem?

    1. Hi everyone,
I have also YN600RT-II flashe and Canon RP. Same problem with underexposed image. Installed latest firmware, but still same problem. Same flash on Canon 600D works good.
      Have someone solution?

      1. I have the same issues with the EOS R. ETTL will work well at about 1.1+ metres focus distance, but dims considerably any closer than that. The flash works fine on my DSLRs 7D MKII and 80D. The most recent firmware update does not resolve the issue.

      2. I have the RP on version one yn600ex-rt and i found that exposure is correct when setting the ETTL II meter from evaluative to average on the RP Menu under red 2 exxternal speedlight control. maybe that can also solve your problem on the mark ii

    1. Sergio, I’ve got Canon 77D which is the same generation as t7i. As far as I know, it is almost the same camera except few minor things like top LCD screen etc.
      And it’s perfectly compatible.

  2. @Gary: I do have a similar issue with my YN600RT-II on the EOS RP. Bought the flash in October from A**z*n, the ccamera in December.
Which firmware would be the one to install? And how can I read out which firmware is on my flash?

  3. I have canon 6d and 2 flash -canon 600 ex rt and yongnuo 685. I use for them trigger 622. A question: yongnuo 600ex rt can be used together with these products with another trigger?

  4. Unable to verify the version of the upgrade after upgrading the firmware to 1.38. Menu button completely changed and now it has 3 menus within the same button. No option seen to verify the version place.

Please help how to verify the version of the firmware. The flash is working but didn’t test completely. So not sure if is is good in all aspects.

    Thanks

  5. Hello! I have a Canon 250D camera and I am thinking of purchasing a YN600EX-RT II but I researched and found out that the canon removed the center pin and then it seems not to be compatible. It is true? I would like more information, if the model will have any updates or already had and will be compatible or not.

    1. do dosn’t work well with Canon R6

      problem with underexposed image

      latest firmware installed

  6. I bought two new YN600EX-RT II flashes, and they’re running a version 1.38 firmware… but the latest available from this site is 1.36. Anybody know where I can get the 1.38 firmware file so I can update my older flash (same model) to this newest version so they all match?

  7. Please download firmware version 1.40 from the official site. Version on this site is outdated. Firmware version is updated for EOS-R camera’s. TTL works perfect after upload.
